Cocoa Board Ghana (COCOBOD) has predicted that the Russia-Ukrain war will have a major impact on Ghana's fertilizer shortage for cashew farmers in the coming years.
Joseph Boahene Aidoo, Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD of Ghana, said the impact of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war had a major impact and the reasons for the lack of fertilizer in the market.
Speaking at the launch of the three Executive Committees, including the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana, the Seed Production Division (SPD), and the Cocoa Health and Extension Division, he said.
Although steps have been taken to ensure that farmers do not face serious difficulties, he added, cork farmers should use natural fertilizer as poultry manure.

The Department of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), has also acknowledged that there are challenges in providing fertilizer to farmers in order to increase agricultural production in the economy.
He said the situation was worrying about food security. The expected food yield rate is affected in some way. There are many challenges that we face that we are addressing.
He said as we are in the country we will look at some of the most important things we have told farmers is that when we talk about compost we are not just talking about inorganic fertilizer. There is a natural fertilizer like chicken manure which is the best, but our farmers save it.
He added that this was a challenge because they were all looking to the government for free fertilizer. Now it will not come, so we urge our farmers to incorporate these energy reduction methods and use natural fertilizers. ”
The war between Russia-Ukraine and Belarus, the three Economic countries produced the basic elements for fertilizer production.
And with the current war, it means that we can get the nutrients to produce fertilizer not only for Ghana but for the whole world.
He added, "So we all have to convince ourselves that we are coming next year, fertilizer will not be available. Even if it exists, it will have a limit.
