Benoni transport company Shooting as cops foil robbery, arrest 12 suspects
According to report, Thirteen men has been arrested on Saturday while they allegedly tried to rob a Benoni transport company.
Names provided are
Mkhululi Dube,age 45; Magoma Sibanda, age42; Victor Vilakazi,age 32; Price Ndlovu, age35; Cosmos Ncube,age 45; Cabangani Kunene, age38; Wilfred Nguben,age 45; Goodman Ndlovu, age36; Tandai Thafirei,age 29; Lucas Mazibc, age27; Samuel Mlambo,age 43; and Senzo Mpofu, whose age is unknown, were arrested and made their first court appearance on Tuesday.
One of the 13 suspect was hospitalised after he was injured while trying to flee from the scene. He cannot be named until he has appeared in court.
Sketching intelligence lead the background to the arrests, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said police were alerted to the attempted robbery. When they arrived, the men allegedly started shooting at them.
"The police then, however, managed to arrest the accused persons."
The accused is now to face six trial of attempted murder, three counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, five counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, and two counts of possession of ammunition.
Mahanjana added.,The other 12 men are Zimbabwean nationals who are believed to be in the country illegally.
"Out of the 13 accused, only Mlambo is legal in South Africa, however, Vilakazi and Ngubeni alleged that they possess South African identity documents, though the Department of Home Affairs is still yet to confirm this,"
All the suspect were charged in connection with the immigration-related allegations.
The matter has been postponed to 26 April, so that the accused can appoint lawyers.
