Good Friday, a minibus crashed on the N1 Road, 11 dead with some feared dead
At least 11 (11) people have been killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a minibus on the N1 near Leeu Gamka in the Western Cape.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesman Simon Zwane said the incident happened around 6am.
According to the report, the minibus was traveling from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape and had a flat tire, where the minibus came to a stop. The bus, which was traveling from Beaufort West to Cape Town, crashed into a minibus. Rescue and rescue operations are under way to locate other people who may have died under the bus, "he said.
Zwane added that the Road Traffic Management Corporation had sent a team to the Western Cape to assist with the investigation.
The province was waiting for busy roads over the Easter weekend. Western Cape Transport Minister Daylin Mitchell said,
"We encourage all travelers this weekend to practice good driving habits, adhere to traffic rules, maintain a reasonable speed and maintain adequate rest during the trip to avoid fatigue," he said.
The provincial Department of Transport has implemented a number of interventions designed to promote road safety.
"It is important that we take every precaution to promote safety on our roads during this time. Doing so will ensure that we reduce the pressure on our health care system and save lives." Prime Minister Alan Winde added,
