teenager to die by hanging for burying nephew alive,Kano
The Kano High Court led by Justice Usman Naabba has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Ibrahim Khalil, to death by hanging for killing his 5-year-old niece, Ahmad Ado.
Khalil was convicted of two counts of kidnapping and culpable homicide.
Nabba also sentenced the convicted man to death
Judge Na'abba said the prosecutor testified without hesitation and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for kidnapping.
Prosecutors presented three witnesses in court and four photographs.
The prosecutor's lawyer, Mr Lamido Sorondinki, informed the court that the suspect had committed crimes in 2019 in Karkasara Quarters in the city of Kano.
The suspect abducted his nephew, Ado, used sellotape to cover his nose and mouth and then buried him in a shallow grave in Sabuwar Sheka in Kano, Sorondinki said.
offenses in contravention of sections 274 and 221 (a) of the Penal Code, the prosecutor said.
The suspect has denied any wrongdoing.
Aisha Abdulkadir, the defendant's attorney, introduced the defendant as one witness and urged her client to be sympathetic.
