On Thursday at Jakande Estate, Isheri Road, Lagos County, tensions erupted as an angry mob set fire to more than 30 motorcycles after an okada rider crushed a man to death.






Information collected shows that an unidentified

okada passenger was walking towards him when he attacked the victim, standing near the road at First Junction Bus-Stop, Lagos.



This has made the youth angry with the incident and protested the victim's death.

While some passengers tried to retrieve their motorcycles, others, out of fear of being attacked by the mob, abandoned theirs and fled.



According to eyewitnesses, the protesters also seized the motorcycles of some passengers who had left the scene of the accident during the protest.






State police reportedly rushed the injured passenger to a nearby hospital for treatment while the mob set fire to discarded motorcycles.


 Residents in the area feared for fear the owners of the burnt motorcycles might plan to retaliate, said a resident, Moses Okebiorun.


“Over the years, the Aboki people used okadas on the highway, which is a double lane. They were lawless and did not respect traffic laws, he said.




He said another okada man was flying in the same direction as usual when he hit a pedestrian trying to cross the road.






The accident left the man dead on the spot.


 When he died, the youths became angry and began capturing the okada motorcycle in Abokis and burning it down in retaliation. More than 35 okadas have burned, ”he said


 The police and the Deputy Chairman of the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, are working to prevent retaliation and restore order in the area, said the President, the World Citizens' Union, Jakande Estate, Oke Afa, Fatai Oloko, the president said.


Oloko said, “At the moment we are standing by to see that no one is traumatized causing problems in the area. We want to stop the violence because of this incident, ”he said.






“The Lagos State Police Command strongly condemns forest justice. Anyone found involved in this will be prosecuted according to the law. ”
