A traditional herbalist has been convicted of murder after stabbing, burning a girl alive
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesman Henry Mamothame said the North West High Court had been found guilty of murder after burning his girlfriend alive.
Thapelo Ramoruki, 29, was found guilty on Monday of killing Tsholofelo Tsheko last January and pointing a gun.
The moon came out on top in a case of kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
January 12, 2021, "It is alleged that Ramoruki, a traditional healer, and Tseko, their one-month-old baby and Tsheko's younger brother drove to Sandfontein Cemetery to perform a ritual for his child.
Mamothame said:
He carried a gasoline, a pellet, a knife and a traditional beer that way. Then they made a practice of moving to a nearby dam to clean up before returning home.
He ordered them to wait in the car, at the dam, and Ramoruki pointed a gun at Tskoko and ordered him to hand over the baby to his younger brother.
He then doused Tseko with petrol and set him on fire.
Mamothame said:
Tsheko's younger brother then saw the flames and heard his sister screaming for help. He then left in a car to seek help.
In a quick struggle, police were called and Ramoruki was arrested at the scene.
After police arrived, Tseko was taken to Moses Kotane Hospital, but died the next day.
The State Prosecutor, Advocate Sello Maema, argued that the murder was premeditated and premeditated.
An autopsy report revealed that the cause of death was multiple injuries caused by stabbings and burns.
Mamothame said Ramoruki would remain in police custody and would be sentenced on Wednesday.
