Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) will announce 30% increase in truck fares on May 13
The increase was announced by the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Godfred Abulbire.
GPRTU will announce a 30% truck fare increase on May 13, 2022, to ensure that transportation operators do not continue to operate at a loss.
Speaking to one of the Citi News news on Thursday evening,
The GPRTU suspect said the union had concluded negotiations on a fare increase after efforts to negotiate with the government had failed.
it will be 30%. At first, we thought about 15% but recently petrol prices rose again dramatically.
This will no longer be a suggestion. Now it is a decision. Next Friday it will go public and we will all see new prices coming out. On the 13th of this month we will be launching a new truck ride ...
Godfred Abulbire said, "We wrote to the Minister informing him that we were coming to negotiate but if the letter has not been forthcoming we think there is no other option but to update our fare so that our members do not work at a loss."
Despite the decision to introduce a new fare next week on Friday, GPRTU says it may be forced to hold back if the government invites the Union leadership to discuss it in the next seven days.
