Two people have been arrested for allegedly selling rotten chickens, Abuja
According to reports, two suspects in charge of a cold room at Garki International market were arrested by Federal Capital Territory Administration officials after numerous complaints from victims in the area,
for allegedly selling rotten chickens to consumers.
The head of the Monitoring and Enforcement Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Kaka Bello, who led security guards and board officials at the market on Friday, told reporters that the public complaints commission had lodged complaints with his institution.
There have been reports of people selling rotten meat in the area, warning that the board would be severely punished for anyone found selling or engaging in improper activities, Bello said.
We have been receiving reports from victims, market managers and the public complaints commission on the sale of unhealthy chickens, He said, “We have been going around talking about environmental issues in general. We are here to talk about environmental health issues, he added.
Before we got here the meat had been removed according to people we had seen operating in the cold.
The detainees would be charged in court after the investigation was completed, Bello said. ,
We will sue them in court after the necessary investigation, and they will pay for their sins, he added.
People can't come to the market to buy what they can get for good health, and buy rotten things, and it is not acceptable.
we detained two people operating on a cold room to find other findings to ensure that rotten meat was not shipped elsewhere. We want to know where the relocation was going. If they destroy it, we want to see where that is done. We want to make sure it is not shipped to other markets for sale. This is so that the public knows that such an act is not permitted in the Federal Capital Territory. In fact, we know that they were selling these items before the Market Administration and Public Complaints Commission found out about it and helped us.
