suspected thief was set on fire by Mob, Bayelsa

According to reports, a mob on Saturday set fire to a suspected thief in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

The incident took place near the Customs Road junction in the Biogbolo-Epie area near the Isaac Boro Expressway.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested for allegedly stealing the victim's expensive phone.

Information was collected that the confused young man, who is said to be in his 30s, was part of a three-member gang that focused on using the famous three-wheeled bicycle called ‘Keke’ to rob those who intended their valuables.

Two other gang members escaped when they were apprehended by members of the public, following a complaint by a victim who allegedly saw members of the gang, the suspect, was burned to death.

He was allegedly carrying an AK-47 assault rifle when a mob attacked him, forcibly dragged a pistol into his neck and set him on fire, setting him on fire with petrol, some eyewitnesses said.

He stole a very expensive phone. They were three in number in Keke. He was carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, and the two fled the scene, but one of them declined to be named.

"A group of people fetched a firearm from him and brought one wheel, put it around his neck and set it on fire," he said.

He added, I heard his girlfriend here, and she warned him not to go on the robbery. People called police after he was set on fire.

About four police officers and their patrol van were also spotted at the scene with a crowd of passersby who were shocked by the burnt man.
