A 34-year-old man, who stole a police uniform from the home of a police officer, was arrested for impersonating a police officer on the Jeppes Reef border in Mpumalanga.
Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said police received information about a suspicious man wearing a South African Police Service (SAPS) uniform at the border on April 5.
The suspect, Nkosingiphile Siyalu Mancoba, allegedly impersonated a police sergeant and robbed the victims at the border, Mohlala said.
These suspicious acts were reported to the police by a concerned citizen, ”said Mohlala.

At the time of his arrest, Mancoba was found wearing a police uniform and a woman's shirt, men's trousers and brown shoes
Investigations revealed that during his tenure, the member allegedly stole his police uniform. ”

Mancoba appeared in the Nkomazi Tongaat Magistrate's Court on charges of impersonation and theft.
Mpumalanga SAPS Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly warned those who do their best to seize police property, including firearms, that such conduct would not be tolerated.
He can therefore apply for bail on only Tuesday.
In view of the recent incidents where members of the police force are being targeted by criminals for their commercial tools, this has made us more cautious. We will deal with those who take us for granted and we will not back down or allow the situation to continue unabated, ”said Manamela.
