He put a pen in the paper with a 5-year contract
The 24-year-old started his career at Liverpool in 2015 but has not been able to rise to the top as he has been loaned out several times to Anfield.
The Nigerian ace played for the likes of Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent, Mainz and Union Berlin, where he eventually found his home.
The striker stood out last season for the Berlin team as he scored 20 goals and five assistants in 43 games in all competitions.
Awonyi finished as the sixth Bundesliga top scorer with 15 goals in 31 games, less than RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku and one more than Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry.
